Workforce Agreement Monitoring Group (WAMG)

Ways of working

WAMG members work together in social partnership across England and Wales where decisions are shared and there is a genuine commitment to finding solutions. The social partners, who are members of WAMG, own and promote the outcomes of their work. WAMG meets weekly as a working group and every six weeks there is a 'Full WAMG' meeting which includes partner organisations' elected members and where the focus is on strategic direction.

In England, the TDA is a key delivery partner of WAMG in supporting implementation of the national agreements on pay and conditions of service and remodelling in schools.  The TDA's role includes support for change management, data collection and the development and delivery of training and support. Support for schools in Wales is provided through the network of local authority change managers. WAMG also provides further support through its notes and information packs.

The WAMG model is mirrored throughout England and Wales in local social partnerships (or local WAMGs) at local authority level. These arrangements are key in monitoring implementation of the national agreements reached by WAMG and supporting/fostering/promoting the delivery of the wider workforce remodelling agenda.

Sub-groups of WAMG also advise on, monitor and help the development of associated workforce issues:

  • The Rewards and Incentives Group (RIG) is instrumental in developing and taking forward the workforce remodelling agenda through reforms to rewards, conditions of service and incentives for teachers and headteachers.
  • The Support Staff Working Group (SSWG) was set up to review the employment issues associated with support staff in England, including a more standardised and benchmarked approach to grading, job descriptions, contracts, rewards, deployment and training and development.
